BFFs
Andrew Putschoegl (US, 2014, 95 min) Kat (Tara Karsian) and Sam (Andrea Grano) are two commitment-phobic best friends with a lifetime of failed relationships in their wake. Kat’s mother (Pat Carroll) passive-aggressively gives Kat a weekend of couples counseling for her birthday, hoping she will mend things with her ex-boyfriend. But after sharing some tequila together, Sam convinces Kat that they should pose as a couple and go to the retreat together to enjoy the picturesque villa and poke some fun at the other couples. They get more than they bargained for, however, when they are thrown into some New Agey exercises that elicit feelings neither had expected. Now Kat and Sam have to keep up their act to avoid exposing their ruse while figuring out if they’re more than just BFFs! Featuring a top-notch supporting cast, including Richard Moll (NIGHT COURT, BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER) and Larisa Oleynik (10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU, THE SECRET WORLD OF ALEX MACK), BFFs charmingly satirizes the earnest feelings-focused counseling while endearing us to wonderfully fleshed-out characters and pointing out that the love of your life might be right under your nose after all. Q&A w/ Andrew Putschoegl (director) to follow screening
