Pit Stop
In a small Texas town, the lives of two strangers will forever be changed by their chance meeting. But before that, Yen Tan’s contemplative romantic drama lays out the disparate stories of these two men – Gabe, who is recovering from an aborted affair with a married man, finds surprising solace in the everyday activities of the home life he still shares with his ex-wife and daughter. At the opposite end of town, Ernesto does just the opposite – avoiding time at home until his financially challenged ex-boyfriend finally moves out and moves on with his life. Nightly visits to the hospital where his ex-lover is slowly dying do nothing to elevate Ernesto’s mood. Ignoring their humdrum blue collar lives and conservative surroundings, both Gabe and Ernesto hold out hope that True Romance is just over the horizon. The focus in Yen Tan’s quiet, understated, film on the emotional isolation of the two men, matched by their determination to find love, has won the hearts of festival audiences and a raft of critical prizes including Best Narrative Feature at the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
