Sing-a-long Victor/Victoria (Hosted by: Bruce Vilanch!)
What better way to celebrate Reeling’s 31st edition than with a 31st anniversary screening of the 1982 musical camp classic Victor/Victoria hosted by Bruce Vilanch!? Comic legend Vilanch – a bona fide gay icon – will be on hand to provide hilarious, running commentary for this one-of-a-kind screening event. Director Blake Edwards’ gender bending free for all, set in the fashionable Parisian nightclub world of the 1930s, stars Julie Andrews as Victoria, the poverty-stricken soprano who finds instant stardom when she dons male garb. Robert Preston co-stars as Toddy, Victoria’s gay Henry Higgins who orchestrates her transformation as the elegant, suave Victor who sets café society on its ear. The beloved, gay themed movie – which also stars James Garner, Alex Karras and Leslie Anne Warren in her Oscar nominated performance as Garner’s ditzy gangster moll Norma – has delighted audiences since its release in 1982. Come join the fun and sing-a-long to the memorable, catchy songs by Henry Mancini and Leslie Bricusse, including “Le Jazz Hot,” “Crazy World,” “Shady Dame from Seville,” and more. And where else in Chicago but Sidetrack – also celebrating 31 years – to host a classic show tune screening as a kick off to their Monday night staple? Celebrate three times over when Reeling, Sidetrack and Victor/Victoria celebrate 31 years in style with this exuberant, one-of-a kind screening event.
