Who's Afraid of Vagina Wolf?
Life is not going well for 40 year-old filmmaker Anna whose birthday finds her once again repeating her usual list of resolutions: to lose 20 pounds, get a girlfriend and direct a movie. Living in the garage of a sympathetic friend who is slowly losing her patience, the workless Anna – who feels worthless – decides to focus her time on writing a new script and at least trying to get one of her goals achieved. Anna comes up with the idea of filming a lesbian remake of the Edward Albee marriage on the rocks classic, “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” and plans to cast herself opposite her latest lady crush – Katia (Janina Gavankar of The L-Word) – who she wants for the leading role. At first things go well and Anna’s two best friends, Penelope (Go Fish’s Guinevere Turner) and Chloe (True Blood’s Carrie Preston) grudgingly agree to support her one last time by taking parts in the movie as well. But as egos begin to collide and crewmembers start shacking up together, all hell breaks loose. Soon Anna’s big dreams of success, love and losing those 20 pounds seems but a distant memory. When she’s asked to vacate the premises Anna is pushed to the breaking point. From the co-writer of Saved! comes this black comedy of dreams deferred, mixed with pluck and more than a little bit of romance thrown in for good measure. Turner won Best Actress at Outfest for her role as Anna’s tart tongued actress friend who essays the role of the trash talking Martha with relish.
