The Prophets and the role of prophecy

What was the role of prophecy in ancient Israel, and who are the prophets in the Biblical text? We will study selections from the Prophets section of the Bible, and explore how the rabbis incorporated the various books of Prophets into the Jewish liturgical cycle and calendar year. We will also discuss the importance of the prophetic voice in Jewish tradition - in the past and in our world today. All texts will be provided; everyone is welcome (knowledge of Hebrew is not required!).
