In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, YWCA Metropolitan Chicago will hold its Take Back the Light event to increase awareness about the growing crisis of sexual assault and violence on Chicago’s South Side. The event is free and open to the public. Take Back the Light is designed to raise awareness about the injustices of sexual assault and domestic violence in hopes that survivors will be empowered to take back the light of life within. “Take Back the Light gives survivors the opportunity to reclaim their lives and futures free from the violence they have experienced in their pasts,” said Yesenia Romo, YWCA Director of Sexual Violence and Support Services. Take Back the Light will feature anti-violence exhibits, including The Clothesline Project and the Chicago Police Department Silent Witness Exhibit. The event also includes a speak out rally and empowerment march, as well as vendors and resource booths.
