The AFC is thrilled to welcome, as this year’s guest of honor, Paula Poundstone, a uniquely hilarious stand-up comic and longtime ally of those committed to ending the AIDS epidemic. Most recently, Paula Poundstone is perhaps best known for her work as a panelist on “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me,” the witty improvisational game show hosted every Sunday on National Public Radio. But her career has been as varied as it’s been distinguished. She was the first woman to perform at the prestigious White House Correspondent Dinner in 1992, as well as the first woman to win a Cable ACE Award for Best Standup Comedy performance. Paula has also starred in solo specials on HBO and BRAVO and has made frequent TV appearances on Letterman, Leno, Craig Ferguson, as well as Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion.” Seeing Poundstone’s live standup, though, that’s the richest way to experience her humor. Trust us, Youtube doesn’t do her justice. And neither does radio. You may be already familiar with the visual: Poundstone, often wearing a colorful necktie, her lanky frame perched on a stool, devilishly grinning as she delivers the comic goods. But you may not fully get it until you’ve personally seen her lively wit trample taboo subjects and freely traverse a vast range of current topics, until you’ve seen her interact spontaneously with audience members, reducing them to wordless fits of shaking giggles. And raucous laughter rings out. Honorees: Lori Kaufman Volunteer Award - Robert H. Neubert Robert H. NeubertRobert Neubert is the director of catering sales for the Hilton Chicago.
