Wonder Women! The Untold Story of Superheroine

From the birth of the comic book superheroine in the 1940s to the blockbusters of today, Wonder Women! shines a light on how popular representations of powerful women often reflect and dictate societal anxieties about women’s liberation. Tracing the fascinating evolution and legacy of Wonder Woman, the film explores the relationship between how she and her fellow heroines have changed over the years in relation to concurrent trends in sexual politics. Interviews with Lynda Carter and Lindsay Wagner (Wonder Woman and The Bionic Woman respectively), comic writers, artists, and real life superheroines such as Gloria Steinem, Shelby Knox and others offer an enlightening and entertaining counterpoint to the male dominated superhero genre while reminding us of the full scope of the term “role model.” (Directed by Kristy Guevara-Flanagan.
