Chamber musical performances, a rare opportunity to walk away with a shimmering diamond. Sir Michael Hill – New Zealand native, entrepreneur and philanthropist – knows how to mine for beautiful, precious diamonds. But he’s also found a way to discover another variety of sparkling gem: emerging violin musicians. Sir Hill’s lifelong love for the violin led him to establish the Michael Hill International Violin Competition, a biennial event for emerging young violinists. Winners of the Michael Hill International Violin Competition will perform Jan. 24 on the Harris Theater stage, alongside renowned and unequalled Co-Artistic Directors of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, David Finckel and Wu Han. The pre-series special concert “Horizons” kicks off the second year of CMSLC’s critically acclaimed three-year residency at the Harris Theater. On the night of the performance, Sir Michael Hill will not only share the fruits of his musical talent findings, but he also will give attendees the chance to enjoy his love of diamonds. The first 1,000 audience members will receive a special box. Almost all boxes will contain a cubic zirconium, but there’s a sparkling catch. One of the boxes will hold a striking 1-carat diamond.
