Two Light’s Theatre Company Presents, Nicky Silver’s THE ALTRUISTS “I grew up in a beautiful house…two parents, two cars, a sky that was extremely blue…and I had no idea that the world was unfair.” Two Lights Theatre Company proudly opened its first full season October. The show will run thru November 4th with performances on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, and Sundays at 3:00 pm. The press opening will take place Monday, October 8th at 7:30pm. Please contact Tori Oman if you would like to arrange an interview with Mr. Silver. The Altruists in America, 2012: Who are the youth of this country? Are they the noble and selfless beautiful rebels, making love like Olympians, or are they just drunk on insanity, rioting and self-absorption? Are they a destructive power in a pretty package, or are they simply addicted to consumption and dysfunction, conducting bacchanalian orgies of cheap wine and non-ideas? Whoever they are, they're the nucleus of a band of pseudo-left-wing hooligans and so-called radicals, and they’re in over their heads with sex, drugs, and guns…they’re the five young radicals of THE ALTRUISTS and they’re wild in the streets of an Occupied America, where love is a political act and where an "accidental" death has nightmarish ramifications for the reckless, the damned, and the stoned. In Nicky Silver's verbose, violent, terrifying, and hilarious play, love dies and hope rots…but firebombs don’t grow on trees. $20 dollars for general admission and $15 for students and seniors, with discounted industry tickets available Thursday nights. Two Lights “exists to explore the duality of art and humanity through various imaginative theatrical experiences." As mentioned above, throughout the process of the production of this play, the company has had the privilege to be in touch with the writer, Nicky Silver. Mr. Silver revealed the humanity of the characters in two quotes: “It is a play about heartless people doing cruel things.” -Nicky Silver “It is not about the left or the right. It’s about hypocrisy.” -Nicky Silver The play is directed by Matt Olson and Ellen Chambers, and features Aaron Kirby, Daniel Mcevilly, Annie Prichard, Bridget Schreiber and Will Von Vogt The design team includes Eleni Sauvaugeu (stage manager), Nick Belley (light design), Jack Hawkins (sound design), Matt Olson (set design) and Olivia Grzasco (costume design). Staying true to its mission of duality, Two Lights Theatre Company will present The Altruists along side the art installation, I Want (______), by Von Bilka and Harriet Bisholem. Conceptual and interactive, this work of art will be installed in the lobby of the theatre and will serve as a compliment to the show. The artists’ inspiration has been drawn from various contemporary artists such as Barbara Kruger and Jenny Holzer.
