1:30-3 p.m. Keith Boykin presentation; NEIU Main Campus - Student Union 003; 3-5 p.m. National Coming Out Celebration; NEIU Main Campus - University Commons CourtyardThe NEIU LGBTQA Resource Center invites individuals to join in this weeklong celebration Oct. 8 -11. There are multiple opportunities to connect and learn. Festivities begin Monday, Oct. 8 with a Coming Out Support Group for anyone wanting to talk about sexual orientation or gender identity. Monday and Tuesday will include a panel discussion, “Beyond LGBTQ: ExploringCross-Cultural Identities” with NEIU faculty, staff, and alumni who will share their coming out experiences. The week concludes with a presentation by Keith Boykin, a New York Times Best-Selling Author and a leading television commentator on politics, race, and sexual orientation. His presentation, “For Colored Boys Who have Considered Suicide when the Rainbow is Still Not Enough,” will discuss the complex issues of sexual abuse, suicide, HIV/AIDS, racism, and homophobia in the African American and Latino communities. After Boykin’s presentation there will be a National Coming Out Celebration from 3-5 p.m. in the University Commons Courtyard.
