Religious people should support equality for gays and lesbians not despite religion — but because of it. So writes Jay Michaelson in his new bestselling book "God vs. Gay? The Religious Case for Equality" (Beacon), which Publisher's Weekly called "a salvo in the case for equality," and which recently hit #1 in gay/lesbian nonfiction on Amazon.com. The Center on Halsted, Nehirim, Or Chadash, Equality Illinois, the Forward, Zeek, and Beacon Press are proud to host Jay Michaelson for an evening of learning and conversation on how LGBT Jews and allies enrich the Jewish people with their differences, and how we can have productive conversations with those still struggling with issues of religion and sexuality. In this text-based and no-holds-barred conversation, Michaelson will discuss his own personal journey of acceptance and affirmation, and how the overwhelming majority of our religious values support inclusion of LGBT people. Plenty of time will be allowed for questions and conversation, and a reception will be held afterward.
