Erotically charged and visually jarring, Blackmail Boys is also a tender love story centered around two sympathetic, if morally dubious, characters trying to find their way in the world. After moving to Chicago for art school, Sam begins turning tricks to help pay the bills. Aaron, his longtime, long-distance boyfriend joins Sam in the big city and becomes determined get Sam out of the sex biz. When Aaron realizes that one of Sam’s “clients” is none other than a notorious anti-gay activist (played by “Mumblecore” filmmaker Joe Swanberg), they decide to blackmail the evangelical hypocrite, but their carefully laid plans hit more than a few snags along the way.
