Pro-equality advocates from across Illinois will be at the State Capitol on Wednesday, April 13, to urge legislators to take action on legislation and issues of importance to LGBT Illinoisans. Organized by Equality Illinois, the 2016 LGBT Advocacy Day will provide an opportunity for citizens to meet directly with legislators and legislative staff.
This legislative session is shaping up to be a busy one for champions of LGBT equality in Illinois. With proposed legislation and a budget impasse that is significantly affecting many in our community, now is the time to tell the legislature where we stand.
Important issues include modernizing the standard to correct the gender marker on a birth certificate, which is important for transgender Illinoisans, and opposing a bill that would stigmatize and discriminate against transgender youth by requiring them to use separate school facilities.
With over 50,000 members, Equality Illinois builds a better Illinois by advancing equal treatment and social justice through education, advocacy and protection of the rights of the LGBT community.
