Chicago, IL - Chicago Children's Museum (CCM) kicks off two months of All Families Matter programming, as part of its ongoing commitment to ensure the museum serves the needs of LGBT-led families and gender non-conforming children, with International Family Equality Day (IFED) at the museum on Sunday, May 3, 2015.

All children ages 15 and under will receive free admission to the museum on May 3. The highlight of this year's event is the Rainbow Staircase. Visitors can use colorful ribbons to transform CCM's three-story central staircase into a giant rainbow. Other programs provide families opportunities to voice their ideas of what makes a family, and create family portraits and flags representing their families. A hospitality and resource room with snacks and live music will be available on May 3, June 4 and 25. Programming continues through June 30. For a full schedule, visit the event page on CCM's website.

"Our abiding commitment has always been to all families. This is a unique opportunity to show our support for all of Chicago's diverse families, and celebrate children with LGBT parents and caregivers not just on International Family Equality Day, but every day of the year. We take pride in being a museum where all can play, discover and just enjoy being a family," said CCM President and CEO Jennifer Farrington.

"Chicago Children's Museum has been a terrific partner with Family Equality Council. We are thrilled to once again be hosting an International Family Equality Day event in such an inclusive environment that welcomes and celebrates all families," said Family Equality Council Midwest Regional Manager Kim Simes.

CCM launched its All Families Matter initiative in 2011. The museum celebrates diversity and believes every family has the right to play, learn and celebrate life without fear, discomfort or shame.
