Chicago's Only Pro-Tackle Women's Football Team Makes History

Chicago, IL - The Chicago Force women’s professional tackle football team has wrapped up its first season, and by all accounts, it’s a success.

After plowing through the Southwestern Division, the undefeated Force racked up yet another decisive win against the Corvallis Pride two weeks ago. Their next stop was the undefeated Sacramento Sirens. This past weekend, the Force traveled to the Bay Area to face the Sirens for the Western Conference championship title. Unfortunately, it was not to be. The Sirens handed Chicago their first loss of the season, 47- 7. The Sirens now travel to New York City to try and take the National Championship away from the IWFL’s dominant team, New York Sharks.

Despite the loss, The Chicago Force’s first season was a win for this city. From team practices in January in the ten-degree weather, to a game in Dallas in the 100-plus degree heat, the athletes proved they are fierce competitors, if not warriors. Hundreds of fans flocked to the home games at De Le Salle Field on the South Side to watch an amazing show of athleticism, as well as heart. The praise did not end at the field. The team caught the eye of a documentary filmmaker, who directed and produced “A Day on The Force” (film website), which premiered at the Gene Siskel Film Center last month. The filmmakers are currently working on a feature-length film documenting the entire season.

Fans can still catch up with the Force at one of several public appearances scheduled in the coming months at Spin and Stargaze.
