More than 300 riders are on their way home to the Chicago area as part of the 200-mile, two-day Ride for AIDS Chicago (RFAC).
Participants peddled 100 miles in teeming rain followed by heat and humidity on Saturday, and they'll do the same today, all for the common cause of helping people with HIV/AIDS receive treatment, testing, counseling and support through important agencies like Test Positive Aware Network (TPAN).
Upon returning, family and friends will welcome these road-weary riders home during a closing ceremony, which begins at 4 p.m. on Sun., July 13 at Ingraham Park located at the Evanston Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Avenue, in Evanston. The rider processional and program begins at 4:30 p.m.
The event is picnic and family friendly, with give-away's from vendors such as Pretzel Crisps, Vita Coco, Illinois Lottery, Crafthouse, and Sam Adams. Sean Lewis from WGN-TV will serve as Master of Ceremonies with entertainment provided by Sway Chicago.
Now in its 11th year, RFAC is TPAN's largest single fundraiser of the year, raising critical unrestricted funds for HIV programs and services at TPAN and its community partners. Fred Says, Chicago House, and About Face Theatre will share in the more than $750,000 that will be raised by riders and sponsors this year.
Unlike other rides of its kind, Ride for AIDS Chicago was created by volunteers and returns 100% of pledges to its beneficiaries.
