San Francisco Unified School District proposed the creation of an official advisory board specifically made up of LGBTQ parents, especially transgender parents.

LGBTQ advocacy group Our Family Coalition floated the idea then lobbied for it. They ask that such an advisory board would be a lodestar for LGBTQ "affirming practicies" that benefit both parents and students.

Changes the board could guide the school district through include language on school forms. For example, forms would abandon traditional parentage markers that ask to identify who is the father and who is the mother of a child.

There are already existing advisory groups for Black, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders, and parents of special needs.

Such boards allow parents to voice questions, suggestions, concerns, and grievances in forums where they can't be crowded out by other special interests.
