City sets stage for Chicago Sky WNBA championship celebration

Chicago Sky won its first-ever WNBA title
The City of Chicago will welcome fans of Chicago Sky WNBA team to Millennium Park, Tuesday, October 19 to celebrate the team's first-ever championship. The team beat the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday 80-74 for the title.
"The City of Chicago could not be prouder of our winning Chicago Sky," said Mayor Lori Lightfoot in a statement received by GoPride.com.
She continued, "We are thrilled to throw a celebration worthy of this historic moment in Chicago sports and congratulate the Sky for bringing our city its first WNBA title. Let's get ready to paint the town #SkyTown!"
Festivities will include an 11 a.m. parade step-off from Wintrust Arena. It will travel north on Michigan Ave. from Roosevelt Rd. to Randoph St. From there, they will head east to Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park for a noon rally.
The celebration is free and open to the public with security screenings at Pritzker Pavilion.
Chicago Sky has long had a strong LGBTQ fan-base, which includes Mayor Lightfoot and wife, First Lady Amy Eshleman.
Players Courtney Vandersloot and Allie Quigley have been married to each other since December 2018. The couple call themselves the "Vanderquigs," a name that has stuck with fans.
Chicago Sky center Stefanie Dolson is also an out player. She is openly bisexual.
The opposing Phoenix Mercury has two out players: Britnney Griner and Diana Taurasi.
