Guanajuato is a city in central Mexico that's known for silver mining and architecture. Tacos Guanajuato is a Mexican restaurant that's a hidden treasure with well constructed cuisine. See the similarities?

Two years ago chefs Jovanny Diaz and Margarita Paredon brought this new vision to life, at 20771 N. Rand Road, after Guanajuato, his upscale, sister restaurant had already taken off in Glencoe, Illinois. Located in the Kildeer area, the surrounding competition consist of large chain restaurants, but this casual concept establishment stands out from the rest. With diners now focused more on local offerings, a place like Tacos Guanajuato is the obvious choice to make.

Diaz treats guests like family and welcomes all with sincerity and style. His staff follows that philosophy by being honest, attentive and friendly. They are happy to help with the wide selection of taco choices that range from octopus tacos to lamb tacos. The bacon and chorizo taco was just a tad spicy thanks to chipotle mayo. If one likes to turn up the heat, housemade salsa and peppers are offered to add to any dish.

The rib eye guacamole makes a perfect starter that can be accompanied with tortillas or chips. The queso fundido is made with chihuaha cheese making it a stringy and tasty dip.

The carne asada was different than many other restaurants with a unique flavor from the distinct marinade and grilled char. It was served with strikingly good black beans and rice.

The ribeye fajita is served on a sizzling pot that will continue to cook in the goodness well after it hits the table. Think of a steak stir fry with tequila marinated red and green peppers.

Speaking of tequila, wash everything down with some mouth watering drinks starting with the classic margarita, then move over to the guava margarita or a muddled pineapple mojito, deliciosa!

Don't forget dessert after that hearty meal, with strong offerings such as churros con nieve and two that are both gluten- free, tres leches and vanilla flan.

Tacos G will really hit the spot with an intimate patio, live music on select weekends and a fun environment to unwind in.
