Got a craving for curry? Well, there's a new spot located at Elston Plaza, 3517 N. Spaulding Avenue, that is the place for you. Hidden inside a ghost kitchen with other restaurants hauntiing the same area, Bokuchan's Japanese Curry House is a real standout with a brillian concept.

Ever order carryout food only to take it home and feel disappointed that it's not packed up well? That won't happen here. BJCH takes time to make every order count and has obviously invested money into high quality products to enhance their special curry cuisine.

Avondale is quickly growing, in terms of population, and restaurants are teaming up to feed the minions that live nearby. Chefs Shin Thompson and Liga Sigal have brought something new and fresh to the table with Bokuchan's Japanese Curry House.

Start off with a Japanese carbinated drink called Ramune with instructions on how to pop the top or sip on a Mexican Coke for beverages.

There are vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options to please everyone, along with plenty of healthy toppings, such as the Beni Shoga ginger or kamikaze paste, that blends habanero and cayenne peppers together for a spicy addition to any dish.

Try the Kurobuta Tonkatsu entree that is centered in pork patties covered with Japanese breadcrumbs before being lightly fried. This is served with Japanese premium rice, crisp cabbage and a cucumber salad.

Curry typically have a blend of at least 12 spices, so expect a burst of flavor, although Japanese curry is different than other curries in terms of consistency and sweetness. At this establishment the curry is made from scratch daily to make this smartly planned menu.

There is a lot of competition in the city in the chicken sandwich arena, but let me tell you, the Chicken Katsu Sando flies above the competition. The generous amount of Freebird chicken used in my order made it simply unforgettable and the cabbage topping added to the overall crunch. Served with nori flaked waffle fries and curry aoili really pushed the dish over the top for me as a new fan.

The matcha cookie with Belgian white chocolate made into a whoopie sando ended the experience on a high note. I see many more sandos in my future...

Bokuchan's Japanese Curry House is the first decicated Japanese curry shop in Chicago and the taste alone makes it number one in my book. When this promising Curry House moves to a new home. expect many to follow wherever they go in the future!

Store hours are from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. every day, although closed on Mondays, with an extra 30 minutes of service on Friday and Saturday nights.
