Located at 400 N. Wells St., Kinzie Chophouse is an upscale restaurant specializing in prime cut steaks and quality service. This River North favorite is currently celebrating a milestone in 2021 with a 30 year well deserved anniversary. Doing what the team does best has paid off for the establishment over the years, even with very challenging times recently.

The clean, modern look of the dining room with cozy, private booths and easy to move tables to create social distancing makes a safe environment for everyone involved. Doors all along the south side of the place can be opened for air circulation during the warm months fortunately here. Mask wearing and temperature checks are current requirements when entering the restaurant at this time.

Owners Nicole Flevaris and Andreas Tsakonas have brought a Mediterranean flavor to the table as influences can be tasted in dishes, such as the grilled Greek salad and the feta with olives bruschetta. All of the appetizers are worth trying, like the crab cakes and beef tartare. After being raised on traditional deviled eggs in the South, their version at Kinzie is quite unique with cream cheese as part of the mix and a smoked salmon small bite placed on top.

Save room for the main event as a large variety of steaks are offered to hungry diners and can be overwhelming. In the past, a tray of choosable cuts of steak were presented to guests, but now just trust in your experienced server to walk you through the options. Sauces range from whiskey peppercorn to a tangy bell pepper romesco to possibly enhance the vast array of meat choices. Careful not to add too much to already strong offerings like the delmonico or cowboy cuts.

Be sure to sample a few side dishes offered such as a sauteed mushroom medley or the shaved brussel sprouts. The scrambled potatoes were a simply unforgettable and a surprising highlight to the night with delicious asparagus and tasty truffle oil.

After all of that, making it to the finish line of dessert can be a challenge, but a few bites of chocolate cake really is the perfect way to end the experience.

The vast wine selection and smart cocktail options will wash it all down. Check out the new Jack Rose cocktail that mixes Calvados, a brandy made from apples, with pomegranate grenadine and fresh lime.
