Artistic and Music Director Kirk Muspratt and DuPage Opera Theatre (DOT) will present a concert version of Giacomo Puccini’s beloved Turandot, on Friday, Jan. 29, and Saturday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m. at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, located at 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn, IL. Puccini’s final masterpiece, Turandot remains as popular today as its premiere in 1926. Set in legendary times, it tells the classic tale of Prince Calaf's courtship of the icy princess Turandot, whose suitors must successfully answer three riddles or face certain death. The prince succeeds and then poses his own riddle to Turandot: she must discover his name. The admired opera is full of fiery, exotic music and soaring melodies, including the sublime tenor aria “Nessun dorma.” Turandot was unfinished at the time of Puccini's death and was later completed by Franco Alfano. The opera will be sung in Italian with English super titles and New Philharmonic Orchestra, named 2009 Professional Orchestra of the Year by the Illinois Council of Orchestras. The New Philharmonic Orchestra will provide immense instrumental accompaniment onstage, featuring a full orchestra with more than 60 musicians and 130 choir members.
