REELING: Loving Annabelle

Inspired by the 1931 German lesbian classic, Maedchen in Uniform, Brooks gives us a modern day tale of the “forbidden love” between a teacher and her student. Simone is a young poetry teacher who finds peace and security within the walls of a girls’ Catholic boarding school. But trouble arrives in the form of Annabelle, the rebellious and charismatic daughter of a famous senator. Fearing Annabelle will influence the other students, the Headmistress instructs Simone to keep an eye on her. Simone quickly learns that the real challenge is not Annabelle’s rebelliousness, but the attraction budding between them. As Annabelle pursues her teacher, she unleashes the passion that has been locked deep inside Simone, who must decide whether or not to enter into an affair that could cost her everything.
