Ten Dollar House
In celebration of Historic Preservation Month, the museum is honored and delighted to host two performances of the celebrated play Ten Dollar House, written by Rick Kinnebrew and Martha Meyer, which played to sold out audiences last year in the Pride Films and Plays production at the Piccolo Theatre in Evanston. In this true story of love and historic preservation set in Depression-era Wisconsin, a London-based decorator and a local drifter fall in love as they restore a dilapidated stone cottage. With a "gay marriage" that hides in plain sight, Bob Neal and Edgar Hellum create Pendarvis house, an improbable business venture that transforms the town of Mineral Point. "Scott Sawa is a most commanding force as Bob Neal. Mr. Sawa manages to capture both Neal's eccentricity and artistic side, while still finding Neal's vulnerability and quieter moments. It tells a true, warmly wrought story about two men who, against all odds, both love, respect and care for each other at a time when LGBT rights were only a pipe dream." Chicago Theatre Review
