One weekend can change your life! This in-depth course is 12 hours over three days (Friday evening and Saturday and Sunday afternoon). Each day, students have the opportunity to practice physical skills, awareness skills, verbal skills, and social skills that will enhance their safety in a variety of situations. We use the Five Fingers of Self-Defense (Think, Yell, Run, Fight, and Tell) to teach people how to accurately assess their risk and respond to violence before it escalates, while also teaching physical techniques to defend against direct physical and sexual assault. Classes are a mix of group discussion, role plays, and physical drills and activities. Our goal is to reduce both the prevalence and the harm of violence. This course is especially for older teens through young adults (ages 15 – 26), and will deal frankly with the safety risks associated with that age group. Taught from a strengths-based, empowerment framework that validates and respects individual choice. Open to all genders.
