Fire destroys Velvet Rope in Oak Park
Oak Park night club damaged during early morning fire
OAK PARK, IL -- Oak Park fire officials continue to investigate an early morning fire that badly destroyed the Velvet Rope Ultra Lounge and surrounding downtown businesses.
Authorities were called to the gay nightclub at 728 Lake St. around 6:30 a.m.
The club suffered "severe smoke damage," Oak Park Fire Dept. Deputy Chief Ken Klemm told the Oak Park Patch. Two adjacent businesses, Klay Oven restaurant and Flat Top Grill, also suffered smoke damage.
The nightclub was closed at the time and no injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
