OK - full disclosure: I'm a little biased about Bill Rosendahl. Though he had briefly come out on his popular Century Cable talk show several years ago after his longtime partner died of AIDS, most of the LGBT community had no clue that the politically powerful pundit was gay - until he came out in a story I wrote for Frontiers in the late 1980s. That deepened his commitment to the LGBT community and started a long personal friendship.

Of course, since he's now a popular elected official - the only gay person on the LA City Council - the line between friendship and journalism gets blurred sometimes - especially since Bill was diagnosed with cancer of the ureter in late July. (Follow Bill on his blog.)

But here's the good news: Bill returned to City Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 11, where he was greeted with a standing ovation. He thanked people for the love he has been shown: "The amount of love I have gotten has been phenomenal. People have brought food to the house. People have prayed with me. People have sung with me. They have put all sorts of positive energy around me."
