Chicago Named Top Dog-Friendly City

DogFriendly.com Names Top 10 Dog-Friendly Cities To Visit in North America

Chicago, IL — Chicago is a pooch-loving town, that according to DogFriendly.com.  The national website has compiled its 3rd annual list of the Best Top 10 Dog-Friendly Cities to Visit in North America, and Chicago took the top spot.

    The annual rankings were determined by the DogFriendly.com staff and take into account the number and quality of dog-friendly accommodations, interesting things to do with your dog and outdoor restaurants that allow dogs. 

    According to the survey, Chicago has many things to do for visitors who bring their dogs. Chicago offers upscale hotels that welcome dogs and for sightseeing, there are horse and carriage rides, as well as boat tours on Lake Michigan and the Chicago River.  The website noted the annual White Sox "Dog Day" baseball game and the city’s excellent park system. 

    The most notable problem with Chicago, according to the survey, is that dogs are not allowed on the public transit system.

    After Chicago, Vancouver, British Columbia, was listed in second place and Boston in third.

    Yeah Right!!!!!! There are NO dog-friendly areas on the south or west sides of the city. I have a 75lbs 8mo old. Its worse than a kid almost. I have to plan and save (Im a newly grad yeah for me) to take him to the beaches, the parks, and to meet other puppies for play dates. Let alone the fact that he needs a dog license as well as a new (not sure how new) tag that is $35 for him to be in a dog friendly area. I do not know where these people got their information butit is wrong if you do not live in the northeast side of the city. Thefurthest south is the park that is near Roosevelt and Wabash or something and it is a little itty bitty hole in the ground sized park. My dog couldnt take a number one comfortably i nthat amount of space LOL. Granted the areas are big for travelers but Im nto going for high end french cuisine on a weekly basis. Where can I bring my puppy with me:*(

    I have a small 6 pound dog that i take everwhere with me. For the most part, store owners and dining venues permit him and love him! Also, about once every two weeks I would take him to my boyfriend's office building on Michigan ave. The doormen love him and greet him by name. Now, a new doorman is up front and will absolutely NOT allow me to bring him in the office. How can you resist such a cute puppy face? Not to mention, how rude the guy was to me. Can't wait until he quits, or I can just sneak him in through the back door :)
