Police unsure if those involved were part of Pride celebrations

Chicago, IL — A Chicago police officer was injured and a store window shattered in an overnight fight in Lakeview.

According to Chicago Police, a 31-year-old man suffered multiple wounds when he was stabbed by a 21-year-old man on Belmont between Sheffield and Clark at approximately 2:46 Monday morning.

The suspect resisted arrest and fled on foot. The man then ran through a plate glass at Forever Yogurt, 931 W. Belmont.

A Chicago police officer was injured when his hand was sliced open.  He was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center

Police arrested the alleged attacker. The suspect was taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital.

The area was packed with people following Sunday's Pride Parade; however, police were unsure if those involved were part of Pride celebrations.

9 people were arrested in the area overnight. No arrests were reported during the parade, which drew a record 850,000 people to Lakeview on Sunday afternoon.

Commentary: Although the parade was well attended and it was a beautiful day, an attack on Belmont and Clark and other fights that broke out way after the parade starting around midnight shows that there needs to be some kind of Parade curfew emposed to dispurse rowdy crowds that are visibly intoxicated and breeding ground for violence. I'm not a prude but this stabbing last night may not have been related but the fights on Halsted were related. We don't want the Pride Parade to start becoming like the old St. Pat's parade on the south side. Last year there was a stabbing between Buckingham and Aldine on Halsted. This is history repeating. I know we are celebrating freedom but violence does not equal Pride.
All the problems were not causes from pride goers but from ghetto thugs that rolled later in the night to hang in the streets. Additional officers on foot would stop this.
