San Andreas, Calif. — Calaveras (Calif.) High School seniors Becca Fernandez and Destinee Gates have been voted "Cutest Couple" by their supportive classmates.

Their school is in San Andreas, near Stockton, in the normally conservative Central Valley.

"Calaveras County, a lot of our rural counties, often get stereotyped as being un-accepting, maybe only one type of mentality and so forth, and I think that's a false perception," Principal Ric Stitt told ABC News.

Fernandez and Gates have been together since they were freshmen. They plan to attend college together in the fall.
