Chicago, IL — Several buildings in the Lakeview neighborhood were evacuated this afternoon after bomb and arson investigators found several explosive devices in one of the buildings, police said.

Officials have called for a hazardous materials response to the 900 block of West Newport Avenue after investigators found several devices in the basement of a building there, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety.

Investigators responded shortly before 4 p.m. to a report of a possible explosive device. After investigators arrived they found the explosive devices and at 5 p.m. the elevated the incident to a hazardous material response.

Several buildings in the area were evacuated, Baety said.
