AVER sponsored the annual ceremony, which also included special recognition for Tech. Sgt. Leonard Matlovich (1943-1988), the decorated Vietnam War veteran who famously came out gay while still serving in the U.S. Air Force and won a court battle ordering the Air Force to reinstate him after he was discharged for being gay.

Victor Salvo and Lori Cannon talked about The Legacy Project, which plans to honor Matlovich with a plaque on North Halsted Street.
