Seattle — Pastor Steven Andrew, President of USA Christian Ministries, wants coffee drinkers nationwide to boycott Starbucks, since the company supports gay marriage.

"What if Starbucks lost 80% of its customers? Christians across the USA are boycotting Starbucks for promoting homosexual ‘marriage' in Washington State," Andrew wrote in a blog post.

Andrew claims that there is "an 80% Christian majority in the USA and 1-2% homosexuals." A 2009 Gallup poll indeed found that 77 percent of Americans identify as Christian, although only 62 percent are actually members of a congregation.

Starbucks is one of more than 100 Washington State companies that have pledged support for gay marriage, which passed the state Senate late Wednesday. 

The measure now heads to the House, where supporters outnumber opponents. Governor Christine Gregoire has said she will sign the bill.

Opponents of marriage equality have vowed to challenge the law with a referendum.

"Christians are upset with Starbucks for turning against God, but we are glad to know that Starbucks doesn't pretend to be for Christians," Andrew said.
