Hollywood — The group "One Million Moms" wants JC Penney to dump Ellen DeGeneres as a spokeswoman because she is a lesbian.

"Funny that JC Penney thinks hiring an openly homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of their customers are traditional families," the group said.

The group has posted JC Penney's corporate phone number, 972-431-1000, online and asked opponents of DeGeneres to call and complain.

"At JC Penney, we couldn't think of a better partner to help us put the fun back into the retail experience," said Michael Francis, president of JC Penney.

Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) spokesperson Herndon Graddick said the call to boycott JC Penney won't work.

"A vast majority of Americans today support Ellen, as well as their LGBT friends and family," he said.

Reuters reported that DeGeneres' show "Ellen" averages 3.8 million viewers every day.
