Veteran human services leader Mark Ishaug returns to Chicago

Chicago, IL — Mark Ishaug, the former President and Chief Executive Officer of AIDS Foundation of Chicago, is stepping down as President and CEO of AIDS United, effective February 29, 2012 according to a press release from the group. Ishaug has accepted a position as CEO of Thresholds, a Chicago based non-profit.

"AIDS United has had a phenomenal inaugural year, and Mark has been a tremendous leader," said Douglas Brooks, Chair of AIDS United's Board of Trustees. "We understand and respect his decision to pursue a new position that brings him back to his home state and his family."

Following Ishaug's departure, Victor Barnes, Senior Vice President, will serve as Interim President and CEO. The Board of Trustees expects to commence a process to select a permanent President and CEO shortly.

Previously, Ishaug served as the President and CEO of AIDS Foundation of Chicago. He joined the AIDS Foundation in 1991 as its public affairs officer and assumed the role of President and CEO in 1998, a position he held until February last year when he joined AIDS United in Washington, D.C.

Ishaug will assume his new duties at Thresholds in March. The social service agency offers comprehensive services for people with severe mental illness.

"Mark has a long history of service to Chicago," said Mike Szkatulski of Mesirow Financial and President of Thresholds' board of directors. "He has a proven track record within the community, building public/private partnerships and fighting stigma and discrimination among vulnerable populations. His experience parallels the work we do at Thresholds. We are honored to have him join our leadership team to bring his expertise and impressive tenure within the Chicago social service community."

Thresholds will host a formal reception for Ishaug this spring.
