Two lesbians competing in Miss California USA beauty pageant

Palm Desert, Calif. — Two lesbians -- Jenelle Hutcherson of Long Beach and Mollie Thomas of West Hollywood -- are competing in the Miss California USA beauty pageant.

    The pageant will be held on Sunday, Jan. 8 and can be viewed online at misscaliforniausa.com.

    Hutcherson and Thomas are the first openly lesbian contestants in the history of the pageant, reports the Los Angeles Times.

    Hutcherson, 26, sports a mohawk and won the Miss Downtown Long Beach contest last year. She is a part-time UCLA student.

    Thomas, 19, who won the Miss Abbey West Hollywood contest, is a more traditional looking beauty pageant contestant. She has traveled around the world volunteering, spending time in Thailand and Mongolia.
