Chicago, IL — A gallery of photographs from community photographer Anthony Meade have been selected as part of the artOut program, an ongoing showcase of rising LGBT artists from Chicago.

One of two exciting galleries opening Jan. 6, Meade's photography will be displayed on the third floor of the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted.

A self-taught photographer, Meade is well known in Chicago's LGBT community for his passion of photography. He has spent the last 5 years observing and capturing faces and places in his own unique perspective.

"The thing that I think that makes a photo special is to make it
come to life," said Meade. "Make the person looking at the photo feel as if they are there with you experiencing what you are photographing."

Meade provides a pictorial history evoking a sense of mood and character that is documented weekly in Nightspots, Windy City Times and Grab magazine. His work is also displayed regularly on ChicagoPride.com, which is where he first started his journey into community photography.

"Anthony has provided nearly 40,000 photos to ChicagoPride.com. 38,771 to be exact," said Bill Pritchard, GoPride.com VP of Community Affairs. "The work he brings to the community is invaluable."

Born in Aurora, Illinois, Meade is the son of a Freewill Baptist minister. He was raised in southwest Virginia and moved to Chicago in 1997 by way of Atlanta. Meade credits his humble upbringing with his unique ability to connect with people in an effort to capture the random snapshots.

"It's been nice making friends along the way," commented Meade as he explained his friendship with each person displayed in the photos selected for the gallery showing. "It was a pleasure bringing them to life."

When he's not up all night snapping photos or working at his day job, Meade still finds time to participate in the Abbey of the Windy City Sisters.

artOut, showcasing Meade's work, opens Jan. 6 with a reception from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Also featured this month is painter Jack McLaughlin on the second floor. Both shows run through Feb. 14. Suggested donation is $5.
