Chicago, IL — From 15-22 July 2006, Chicago will play host to the world and welcome thousands of athletes, spectators and cultural participants for the Gay Games VII Sports and Cultural Festival. The Games will feature 12,000 international participants, competition in 30 sports, world-class athletes and artists, band and choral performances, nightly medal ceremonies, an arts festival, parties, and spectacular opening and closing ceremonies featuring entertainment, pageantry, and the parade of participants from more than 70 countries. 

Chicago Games, Inc., organizer of Gay Games VII, is seeking new Board members.  Experience or background in corporate travel, foundations, corporate fundraising, donors, band or choral, culture, logistics, health care or planning and production of large scale events is desired.  Candidates should also support the Gay Games principals of diversity and gender parity. 

Nominees must meet the minimum requirements for service on the Board of Directors contained in the organization's bylaws and shall possess the highest personal and professional ethics, integrity and values.  Each nominee shall have demonstrated effective leadership and sound judgment in his or her professional life.  Board service includes personal financial obligations and significant time commitment, including attendance at once-per-month board meetings in Chicago. 

Please send resumes and a personal statement to the attention of Christopher Pries, Chair, Nominating, Governance and HR Committee at ChicagoChris06@aol.com or via fax +1 312.601.1555.  Resumes should detail personal and professional qualifications, volunteer service and not-for-profit or for-profit board service.  A personal statement must be included that details the applicant’s experience participating in Gay Games, or why they are interested in supporting the Gay Games movement.  Resumes and personal statement together should not exceed 4 pages. Persons of color, women and persons with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.

    About The Gay Games
    The Gay Games were conceived by Dr. Tom Waddell, an Olympic decathlete, and were first held in San Francisco in 1982 with 1,350 participants. Subsequent Gay Games were held in San Francisco (1986; 3,500 participants), Vancouver (1990; 7,300 participants), New York (1994; 12,500 participants), Amsterdam (1998; 13,000 participants), and Sydney (2002; 11,000 participants).  Gay Games VII will include 30 sports ranging from softball to dancesport, swimming to tennis.  The opening ceremony is scheduled for 15 July at Soldier Field, home of the football’s Chicago Bears, with closing ceremony on 22 July at Wrigley Field, home of baseball’s Chicago Cubs. Athletes and artists can register for Gay Games VII at GayGamesChicago.org
