ESPN radio sportscaster Jared Max: 'I'm gay'

New York City — It's been a virtual stampede to get out of the media and sports closet, as CNN anchor Don Lemon, NBA executive Rick Welts, former Villanova star Will Sheridan and now ESPN radio sportscaster Jared Max have all come out as gay.

    Max made his announcement on the radio on Thursday morning.

    "Are we ready to have our sports information delivered by someone who is gay? We're going to find out. Because for the last 16 years I've been living a free life among all my close friends and family. But I've been living behind what is a gargantuan size secret in the sports world," he said at the end of his show. "I am gay. Yes, Jared Max the sports guy with one of the most familiar voices in New York sports."

    The bosses at ESPN Radio 1050, which is broadcast in the New York City area, are apparently supportive of Max, although he did not warn them about his announcement ahead of time, reported the New York Daily News.

    Max has covered the Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Devils and Islanders, and reported from Super Bowls, World Series, NBA Championships, Stanley Cups and the Olympics.
