Frito-Lay is considering two gay-themed commercials for Doritos to air in Super Bowl XLV, but most people are finding the new ads to be gay-unfriendly.
The junk food company has posted the ads on You Tube before airing them on one of the most widely watched nights of television.
Advertisers typically gear their message for the 18-34 year old male demographic by using sex and sexy women to sale their product, but Frito-Lay plans to air these ads - with homosexuality used as a punchline.
Most feedback on the internet has been negative with many calling the chip ads mildly homophobic and reinforcing negative stereotypes.
i must be one bad faggot...i was not offended and i thought they were cute...but i loved the two effeminate movie reviewers on "in living color" also...am i the only queer in america who has a sense of humor about themself?......
I've watched both ads and have really tried not to be over sensitive, but I just think they portray a stereotype and are, frankly, just tacky. I am really interested to hear what others think, though.
they are pretty funny but i dont like the fact that it portrays a typical stereotype that doesn't apply to all in the gay community.
I just watched them and I'm gay. I think they're funny as hell. Get over it bro! LoL!
i agree they are funny.. im not overly sensitive about it.. like maybe some others will find it.. i had a good laugh! lol
lmao - yeah... left not get super analytical with these ads... they really aren't really that bad. they do suggest that when a man is tempted by the presence of Doritio's that they'll do anything to get their hands or eyes on them. If they really wanted to I would of suggested they hire the writers from Modern Family or something. They're cheesy fun. Let's admit the eye candy in the first clip were yummie as well.
*lets
The reason why they're offensive is because they're getting the laugh on us!
I think these are HILARIOUS and just to see ANY gays during the SuperBowl would be great!!!
Not funny. I'm not offended at all, but they're not funny. Could have been much better
I agree with Jeff & Frank.....not so funny and offensive...not all gays act that way.....
OMG, this is a neat commercial. It's playful.
I think they're funny. I don't think they are going to go over well, but they do portray gays as they are. I know lots of gays (including myself) and all of them that I know are like that at some point.
poor us.......i laugh at straight people all the time, does that make me a bad person?.....
and he /she who laughs last..........
I enjoyed the first one with the two guys by the pool quite a bit, not so much the sauna video. Why? Well, being from Tucson, Arizona, I love swimming pools but I am not really into chocolate.
Both of them made me lol. Kudos to Frito-Lay for understanding the breadth of your demographic and having the guts to air these during the Superbowl!
Eh, they're not that funny... they're not that obnoxious... they're not much of anything besides a waste of airtime...
Yes, we all know boys like the two in the first ad (Pool Boys)... And yes, we've all heard (made?) the catty "yeah, he's one" kind of jokes about the neighbors... But really, which would you rather do...? lounge by the pool with snacks & a cocktail or cut some bush....?
The other one (It's Getting Hot In Here!) is just plain stupid... I mean, who's gonna take a bag of chips into a steam room... Even if it is one without a lot of steam... *note to director - if you're going to have the "sounds" of steam, have some steam, ok?
Both are lame and boring... and epic "FAIL" if they go on the air.
And you know somebody over at some organization is going to say that they're blatantly homophobic and blah, blah, blah....
