Ceremony included tribute to outgoing Chicago Mayor Richard Daley

Chicago, IL — Rahm Emanuel made a brief appearance at the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame Ceremony Wednesday night at the Cultural Center, but remained silent on reports that he plans to formally kick off his bid for Chicago Mayor this weekend.

Emanuel resigned from the White House last month and has since been traveling to different neighborhoods throughout Chicago, meeting residents and talking about his mayoral plans.

The former White House Chief of Staff is expected to announce his campaign on Saturday morning at John C. Coonley Elementary School in Ravenswood, where his is a former resident.

Former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun also made an appearance at the Hall of Fame Ceremony, which included a tribute to outgoing Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.

U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, who also plans to formally kick of his campaign this weekend, City Clerk Miguel del Valle, former Chicago Public Schools CEO Gery Chico and State Sen. James Meeks are all considered viable candidates in the race to replace Daley.

Mayoral contenders must file at least 12,500 valid signatures to be placed on the Feb. 22 ballot. The deadline for submitting petitions is Nov. 22.
