Chicago, IL —
Actress Ellen Page ("Juno") will star in a new feature-length film about a car mechanic in New Jersey who fights for her girlfriend's pension benefits.
The movie, "Freeheld," is based on the Oscar-award winning documentary of the same name.
That documentary told the true story of Stacie Andree (Page) and her police officer girlfriend Laurel Hester. The women struggled to secure Hester's pension benefits after she became terminally ill.
The screenplay will be written by Ron Nyswaner, who was nominated for an Oscar for the screenplay for "Philadelphia."
