Sidetrack is probably Chicago's largest gay club without a dance floor. Shining woods and exposed brick contrast against the silvery polished steel stools and metallic wall coverings.

Screen after screen lines the wall of this modern and ultra-clean video bar, the bathrooms feel like they've been beamed directly down from an orbiting rocket ship. The space is divided into four separate bars, the newest addition juts upward in an expansive launch towards the sky, glass doors separate it from the adjacent patio.

The older section consists of three separate bars, a little more dimly lit. The crowd--late twenty-somethings on up to men in their fifties, sometimes even sixties--is mostly made up of professionals. The beautiful boys seem to plant themselves smack dab in the middle of the newest bar near the patio, but most men don't stand still for long—they take lap after lap in what is one of the crusiest scenes on Halsted.

Special nights include show tunes Sundays, comedy Thursdays, '80s night, and the very crowded weekends. Best bet is to grab one of their famous slushy drinks and settle down--with all the cruising, who even needs a dance floor?
