Chicago’s Midnight Circus—a high-flying assortment of acrobats, aerialists, clowns, contortionists and even a dog—will tour seven Chicago parks in September and October under a big-top tent. See website for dates at Holstein, Independence, Commercial, Mt. Greenwood and Chase parks; the tour runs through late October. Tickets are $15 (children under 2 free).

A durational dance project inviting the audience to choose when, where and how long to engage in the performance. Doors open at 7pm and viewers may arrive anytime thereafter. The sixteenth MCA Stage season opens with John Jota Leaños' daring multimedia music and dance work exploring cultural taboos around silence, death, and dissent through a performance that fuses dark, humored animation with Mexican neo-folkloric dance, Mariachi, hip-hop, bossa nova, and blues. Chicago Opera Theater (COT) will present the first new production of The Magic Flute in Chicago in 17 years. Tickets $45-$125, and COT offers half-off tickets to students in sections A, B, and C. COT offers 100 tickets to each performance for only $25, available on a first-come, first-serve basis, subject to availability, limit of two tickets per household.

Salon night for lesbians and their friends features Sarah Terez Rosenblum, author of the critically acclaimed novel, Herself When She’s Missing (Soft Skull Press), and local indie folk rocker Diva Kai.
