ShawChicago gives the 2012 treatment to George Bernard Shaw’s crackling 1912 Androcles and the Lion with a first-rate cast of ten Chicago actors.
Subtitled “An Old Fable Renovated,” this highly comic dramatization of one of Aesop’s most famous fables has been hailed Shaw’s critique of “hypocrisy, free thinking, cowardice, martyrdom, salvation, sacrifice, political opportunism—and ever so much more” (New York Times). Directed by Kevin Christopher Fox. The 100th anniversary retelling of Androcles and the Lion runs February 4-27, 2012 at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts.
Tickets are $12.50 - $25; call 312.578.7390 or visit www.ShawChicago.org. Show times are Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm and Mondays at 7pm.
