Asian culture vs American culture
I have my best friend, Sonia, also from Taiwan. I guess she is the only one know about all my secrets. lol.
Anyway, we love to have conversations about the difference between Asian culture and American culture. Sometimes we discuss in good way but also we argue with them. After all, America is one of the developed countries, and lots of issues deserve we to think about.

We both feel most of Americans know nothing about Asian culture. Although they saw the some news about Asian culture, they still can't tell the difference between Taiwanese or Chinese. lol. (If I said I am Taiwanese, people will treat me nicer here.) But, it's understandable, for example, even sometimes east coast don't know about west coast, vice versa. I would say because of Hollywood movies and TV dramas. Most of Asians know about American on certain level. We embrace diverse culture and hope to study aboard if we have chance. To learn more perspectives from westerners. So, I suggest maybe you will want to watch some Asian movie or dramas. It will help you understand Asian culture more. And I believe you definitely will love our food. :)

Because of the education, we both think Asians are more likely to be lack of confidence about ourselves.  American education emphasizes more on encouragement than score. Asian kids got scores when they did something wrong. Sonia and I both agreed that American are more confident which is good, because that makes you comfortable with doing everything and success.

All of cultures have their own unique spirit. It will be really nice if we understand each other. :)

43rd annual Pride celebration- Happy Pride!
It's my first time to participate the GAY event in my life. Since I have worked for GoPride.com, I got a lot of first time experiences. I admired that gay or lesbian they hand holds hand and walking down the street, sharing their best moment with Parade. Being a photographer during the parade, I saw the people kissing on the street, dancing with float. They never afraid to show their pride. I captured the best moment picture I like the most and added some caption. And hope you will like as well.

10th annversity party
This my first time to assist the party at ChicagoPride.com! It's very nice to work with the team. Not sure if you recognize me, but I was the one busy with taking your photos and tweet them. It's really a cool experience because I never done these before, even I was an PR assistant in Taiwan. The attitude in American workplace was also different from Taiwan. It's more intense in Taiwan and more stressful.

Next time, if you saw me, please say hi to me. :)

Self-recognition
As an intern, I am in charge of Pinterest to get people's attention about ChicagoPride.com. When I looked at those pictures, I realized that I still have some self-recognition problem. I don't have courage to recognize myself. I never joined those activities, seldom meet gay people and said I am GAY to other people. Generally, Taiwan is still a conservative country, and also my family is very traditional. Unlike America, even though the Gay right and social recognition are getting aroused in Taiwan, most people still have opinions about that. I guess one of reason I applied for working at ChicagoPride.com is to seek the real me. Hope I can do more for this LGBT community.

Also, hope you can follow us on Pinterest. :)

The first post

Hello everyone, I am Lucas, an intern at ChicagoPride.com.
From today, I start to write the blog. Hope you will like it and please leave
your comments to encourage me! You will know real Lucas here.

When Matt asked me about what kind of topic I want to write
about, I decide to write about my life in Chicago and culture difference
between United States and Taiwan, my hometown. (Hope someone won’t think Taiwan
is Thailand or China, because I met a person who really thought Taiwan is
Thailand. I even heard that Taiwan is in Japan which is ridiculous!!! ) It’s
exciting but also a little bit worried about myself because I am an
international student and still having language barrier. But anyway, I think I
will overcome it. Just need to be positive, and your encouragements are also
the power keeping me to write this blog.
