Convention Center, 5555 N. River, Rosemont, Aug. 19-22. Celebrities
such as Linda Hamilton, Lorenzo Lamas and Linda Blair signed autographs
and posed for pictures with fans. Booth after booth supplied comics,
toys, video games and artist renderings for everyone. Why wait for
Halloween when this convention encourages guests to dress up early?

I grew up reading comics so it is always fun to visit and hang out with the celebs!

Lollapalooza brought in crowds of over 70,000 this past weekend. With
eight stages to choose from fans were offered a variety of acts from
Erykah Badu (pictured here) to Devo to Soundgarden. But it was Lady Gaga who upstaged
many groups as she crowd surfed with Justin Tranter the lead singer from
Semi Precious Weapons and Gaga wannabes dressed liked her.
With
fun after parties at the Hard Rock sponsored by Warner Brothers (pic with David Arquette),
photographing and interviewing bands this weekend kept Nunn on the Run
running all over the city!
Looking forward to the festival turning twenty next year, congrats Perry! Read my interview with creator Perry Farrell here.
Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton threw a bash entitled “One
Night in Chicago” at the Hard Rock Hotel (230 N Michicagn) to kick off
Lollapalooza this past Thursday night. Such acts as Kid Sister, Nneka and B.o.B
rocked the stage as Perez introduced them. Nunn on the Run asked Hilton if he
was attending Market Days where he described himself as a “ghost and master of
teleportation” and would be making appearances everywhere.

Lilith Fair, or Lesbianpalooza if you will, was an eight-hour affair July 17
at the Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Ill. The variety of
musical acts kept the long day fresh with punk singer Kate Nash,
Courtyard Hounds ( made up of two of the three Dixie Chicks ) ,
Heart, Mary J. Blige ( who later had an afterparty at the club Le
Passage ) and singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan. The mastermind of
the festival, McLachlan stated during a press conference earlier in the
day that they are already talking about a five-year plan for the Fair.
When asked by Nunn on the Run about a destination Lilith Fair where
fans would travel to one location such as Lollapalooza, Sarah stated
that they had discussed it and may be part of the future. She also
commented on how thankful she is for everyone that comes to the
festival, including her huge lesbian following, and that “we fall in
love with who we fall in love with, we’re human beings and it shouldn’t
make any bloody difference what sex they are.” The Chicago Women’s
Health Center received a check for more than $10,000 on behalf of the
tour.
Throughout the day, the mainly female crowd shopped booths in the outside pavilion, ate, drank and danced until dark.
The eclectic show drew to a close with the main headliners returning
to the stage for a rendition of Patti Smith’s “Because the Night.”

luncheon for her movie Hannah Free. Then I ran over to see Taylor Dayne
at Pridefest. Afterwards, I met her and thanked her for the interview at Nunnontherun.com. She was happy to see me. We hugged and I showed her the newspaper.
I left the festival to head over to the Chely Wright signing at
Borders Bookstore. She read excerpts from her book and explained how she
almost killed herself before she came out of the closet. When people
started sharing their stories on how they have been mistreated being gay
and lesbian coming out of the closet, there was not a dry eye in the
house! She sang a few songs and described her dealings with the music
labels. Her interview with me is here.
She was the Grand Marshall for the parade the next day.
I worked at the restaurant at night and snuck over to the backlot bash to watch a street party.
The next morning it was time to get up and celebrate the Pride
Parade. It is always a blast to see so many past friends and watch all
of the floats. It truly was a beautiful day. You gotta have pride!!!
