Oprah's The Big Give
If you haven't heard of Oprah's The Big Give, here is a snippet I found on-line.

The "first project, dubbed 'Oprah Winfrey's The Big Give,' has an eight-episode order from ABC. Skein follows a group of 10 people who will be handed money and resources -- and then challenged to find dramatic and emotional ways to use the coin to help others.

Contestant field will be winnowed down each week, with the winner getting his or her wildest wish granted."

So, with that said, all I can probably say about the show is that I waited all day Friday to be screened and, luckily, I made it through the semi-finals interview on Saturday. My experience was relaxed and exciting!

From what I understand, Oprah's people no go to New York to look for more candidates. I am supposed to hear back from them mid March if I made the finals.

Competition is really stiff! So many good people with great hearts!

Anyway, you probably won't hear anything else from me as 1). I hopefully made it to the finals and will be kept to secrecy or 2). I didn't make it and will be so bummed about it that saying anything will make me sad.

Wish me the best of luck!

Welcome to the Ghetto-hood!
Don't get me wrong...I love Uptown. Hell, I grew up here. It is my home. However, I am not a big fan of Shiller. I was hoping for some changes in this election, and it was a close race.

To the Cappleman, a job well done! As least, you made her sweat!

Let's see what will happen to the Wilson Yards. Again, many promises. Only time will tell!! I doubt this neighborhood will ever get to be as glorious as it was in its heyday!

This is what I had to say a few months back:

Letter to the Editor:

They say that every story has two sides, and now that my anger has subsided and embarrassment diminished, the only thing I can do is give you mine. I have never been one to get involved with politics, but after what occurred on Oct. 13th it would be stupid of me to elect Helen Shiller as alderman of the 46th ward. Uptown is changing and the community is crying out for a leader that will take action, keep promises and listen to residents and businesses alike. Most important, Uptown is lacking the unity and communication that so many neighborhoods and wards have managed to create. I believe that wedge, in some fashion, comes directly from Schiller’s office.

Call me crazy, but why is it that Andersonville and Lakeview have managed to create street fairs and/or cultural events, while Uptown has yet a bone to play with. For three years I have been trying to do something about it and for some reason I always end up feeling like a dog running after its own tail. Anyway, after much prying and trying, I got a call from Schiller’s office this summer saying that they would “support” me in organizing an art walk. My goal was simple; to bring about 30 artists together and create a great atmosphere for Uptown residents to come out to support the arts on a nice ped-way on Sunnyside. St. For me, this was not about politics, but doing something for the community at large. Unfortunately, the Green is for Grassroots Uptown Art Walk never happened. I lost time and money. The artists lost time and money. And to date, no one from Shiller’s office has called to explain or apologize about the situation.

Events are canceled all the time. I wish I could say that this event in particular was canceled because of weather, or even because there was a lack of interest, but I can’t because the weather was perfect and the interest from both the community and the artists was there. All I know is that the day before the event, the “support” I was told I would receive was not going to come for that weekend event. Excuses were made, and by the end of the day, I was lied to and made to feel like it was my fault. Furthermore, I was warned that if I continued with the event, there would be consequences. Basically, I was threatened for trying to do something positive.

There are details and theories as to what happened, and I wish I knew why something that could have been so good for us turned out so bad. But if I am guilt of something, it would be because I trusted too much. I was warned. I was told to be careful and I didn’t listen because I wanted to believe that this art walk would happen. Well, it didn’t and it won’t until Schiller is removed from her all too comfortable seat. James Cappleman you have my vote.

It’s not right. But it’s okay.

Tell me about it. Whenever I drive from Thordale to Belmont I pass Uptown. The town doesn't look so Uppity to me. And it's portion of lakeshore drive? The bumpiest..ever. Especially the Wilson (southbound)overpass...stay away from the far right lane. Bad for your shocks.
Dood there's enough yuppies and congestion in the summertime. All we need is another friggin art fair to clog up the streets even more. People just want to be left alone. I have to work during the summer and it's a pain in the ass trying to get around with all the congestion. TO BE CONTINUED...
If you wanna waste some time and money why don't you find out how you can do something about the homeless or maybe go visit some cancer kids at a hospital or go help some old people. Trust me there are enough street fairs in chicago. Check out the Around Coyote street fair when it comes around, why not lend support to one thats already been around.

You look great in trunks!
