Welcome to Burlesque!
Just got back from a special screening of Burlesque starring Cher, Christina Aguilera, and Stanley Tucci. The movie also showcases other heart throbs like Cam Gigandet, Eric Dane, and what the hell, we'll throw in Alan Cumming too!
The movie presents a story that we have all seen before. The struggling, yet talented underdog moves to a big town where struggles await before catching her big break.
My personal views of Christina Aguilera were lifted a little in this movie; I didn't find her as annoying as I normally do. Stanley Tucci of course plays another terrific role as the assistant/mentor to the boss, much like his character in The Devil Wears Prada.
And then there's Cher (Maude?). I know, I am often the victim of rolling eyes when my excitement for this woman comes to light. She was amazing! This of course shouldn't be news to anyone considering she is always amazing. I wish she was actually in the show more; however. There were some slow moving scenes that just begged for Cher's rousing contributions. She has some slammin scenes that make you want to just burst into applause and cheers right in the middle of the movie.
So of course I recommend you see the movie when it opens November 24th of this year. Wouldn't be surprised if some "nods" are directed toward the actors of this great film either. Don't be surprised if you find yourself tapping your foot or provocatively dancing in your seat before exiting the theater; admitting that you've just been Burlesqued.

I'm baaaaack...
Well, for the past 5 days I have been in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. It was awesome! I did not want to return. The weather was gorgeous, the amenities were gorgeous, and the people? Oh, gorgeous as well!
We stayed at Dreams Punta Cana Resort. I recommend it to any potential travelers. The grounds are breathtaking and very well maintained. The food and drinks were delicious.
I did it all, swam in the ocean, snorkeled, tanned, kyaked, ate, drank, met new people, caught up with old friends, etc.
The Dominican residents are very friendly. I ventured out of the resort twice; once to see the market, and again to go snorkeling in the Caribbean.
The atmosphere here is of pure relaxation. Lounging by the pool, on the beach, in the lobby, at the bar, anywhere! Except for the theater. These performers were outstanding and extremely energetic. I saw magic shows, dance routines, singing competitions, just about everything to keep the guests entertained.
But now back to Chicago and the best time to be in Chicago from what I hear. I have not been to a single gay summer event ever! I have read a great deal about a number of events and heard about them through friends. Needless to say I am extremely excited to experience-and subsequently blog about-summer, gay Chicago style!

So what's the deal?
The deal is I graduated from college in Wisconsin last May. Time does fly! I missed the city life, so moving back to Chicago was an easy decision. Still living at home until I get some money saved up, but I'll tell ya that living on my own for 4 years has me counting the days until I get a place of my own.
I am in fact new to the gay scene in Chicago. This is a little nerve wracking yet oddly exciting. There is a lot to see and much to do it seems. I'm looking forward to it all.
I did a sort of "2010 Boystown Intro Tour" where I basically went to several bars up and down Halsted just to have one drink and observe the atmosphere. I went to Scarlet, Roscoe's, Minibar, Hydrate, Spin, and Berlin. One drink from each certainly did a number on both my wallet and my sobriety, but I loved it.
One of my favorite practices in new places is people watching and I was able to do a lot of this which was great! I was lucky enough to have some friends with me, but normally they are rather reluctant to join in on the fun of boystown. But that won't stop me from comin' out.
Well, perhaps I've bored you all enough. Stay tuned for some updates and random rants. At the very least they should be entertaining if not philosophically moving.
